People in the GTA are feeling disconnected... from themselves, each other, and the world around them. We believe we have the antidote to this problem.
Since inception, Wilderness Union has provided opportunities for thousands of people to connect deeply with nature and our amazing community of young professionals. We strongly believe that nurturing these connections can change your life. Today we'll explore what makes our adventures and experiences truly unique.
Community First, Adventures Second
We are not a tour company - we’re a community. Many outdoor clubs claim to focus on connection, but what makes Wilderness Union successful in this regard? We've built a vibrant and engaged group that extends far beyond the trail. It's not just about getting outdoors; it's about building a group of people who genuinely enjoy it together.

The Community Between Adventures
While our wilderness trips create unforgettable memories, the magic of Wilderness Union happens in the spaces between adventures too. Our regular in-town socials give members a chance to connect over drinks, share stories from recent trips, and plan future adventures together. These casual gatherings are where friendships deepen and where new members quickly feel like part of the crew.
Beyond our organized socials, we offer free member-led clubs that cater to diverse interests and keep the community active year-round. Join our Run Club for weekly group runs through Toronto's trails, meet up with the Climbing Club to work on your bouldering skills, or dive into outdoor literature with our Book Club. These clubs aren't just activities - they're anchors that keep our community connected and give you multiple ways to engage based on what excites you most.
Through our dedicated Discord server, this sense of community extends into the digital realm. Members share trip photos, coordinate carpools, get advice from guides, celebrate each other's milestones, and stay plugged into everything happening in the Wilderness Union world. It's a space where friendships formed on the trail continue to grow, even when you're back in the city.

True Wilderness, Not Just Recreation
While other outdoor clubs and tour companies offer day hikes or social outings, Wilderness Union specializes in authentic backcountry and wilderness experiences. We're talking canoe camping in remote Ontario lakes, multi-day backpacking trips where you won't see another soul, and expeditions that take you far from cell service and into the heart of true wilderness.
Our commitment to wilderness means doing our research. Many of our trips venture to less-known, less-crowded spots that few people are aware of. We prioritize the less-traveled path and the more wild places, creating opportunities for the kind of deep nature connection that simply isn't possible on crowded, popular trails. And we embrace all four seasons - yes, including winter! From snowshoeing and winter camping to ice skating on frozen lakes, we run a huge variety of unique adventures every year that help members experience the full spectrum of what Ontario's wilderness offers.
Making the Backcountry Accessible to Everyone
One of our core beliefs is that wilderness experiences shouldn't be exclusive to expert outdoorspeople. Whether it's your first time camping or you basically grew up in the backcountry, we have something awesome in store for you.
Every adventure comes with a star rating indicating difficulty level, so members can make informed decisions when signing up. But here's what really makes our trips accessible: they're all led by exceptional guides who are genuinely the best in the business. These aren't just trip leaders. They're certified experts with advanced wilderness first aid training, deep knowledge of Ontario's ecosystems, and an infectious passion for sharing the outdoors with others.
Because experienced guides handle all the technical aspects, no prior experience is needed for camping and multi-day trips. Beginners can confidently sign up for their first canoe camping adventure knowing they'll be supported every step of the way, while more experienced adventurers can challenge themselves on our advanced expeditions.
Our guides are also dedicated educators. On every trip, you'll learn practical wilderness skills - from identifying common Ontario trees to building fires in wet conditions. We also run dedicated workshops throughout the year, giving members opportunities to build confidence and competence before their next adventure.
The Complete Adventure Package
Perhaps the most practical differentiator? We handle everything. When you register for a Wilderness Union adventure, you can simply show up and immerse yourself in the experience. We take care of permits, gear, transportation, meals on camping trips, and of course, expert guides. This all-inclusive approach removes the barriers and stress of trip planning, letting you focus on what matters: connection, adventure, and growth.
Your membership also includes tangible perks like great deals at companies like MEC and other outdoor retailers, making it easier and more affordable to pursue your outdoor interests.
What It All Means
What truly sets Wilderness Union apart from other outdoor clubs is our commitment to connection… with the land, with one another, and with the values that guide responsible adventure. We're not just about ticking off trails or chasing summits; we're about building a community that respects nature, supports each other, and grows through shared experience. Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned adventurer, you'll find a welcoming crew that's all about supporting each other and sharing the joy of being outside together. Join us!
