Description

This is a special place. It's supremely quiet, incredibly beautiful and one of the first true wilderness trails that's within a couple of hours of Toronto. We'll head up North, into the Canadian Shield and hike a landscape that's dominated by barrens, pristine lakes and pines. The barrens are a unique phenomenon with some of the oldest exposed rock on earth that makes for a really scenic through hike of about 7.5km. We're unlikely to see many people, if anyone all day.

We're exploring the land of the beaver and we'll find the trail is shaped by those creatures that call it home. Along the way, you'll get to explore beaver dams and learn how nature's engineers perform their work.

We have some spots that are so special that we feel an obligation to keep them from getting over-run. WU is the circle of trust where we share these places on the understanding that we keep them between members so they stay special and most importantly, protected. Once you register for this trip, you'll get the precise location - we're heading 2 hours north of Toronto, close to Gravenhurst.

NB: As this is a through hike, no self-transport will be possible.

What to Expect on a WU Trip

Is a Wilderness Union Trip Right for You?
We offer a unique alternative to commercial tours. We don't just show you incredible natural wonders, we teach you to become confident in nature so you can discover the life changing magic of the outdoors. You'll love it here if:
- You want to make real friends, not just small talk with strangers
- You prefer "off the beaten path" over "all-inclusive resort"
- You're happy to pitch in and learn new skills (e.g., helping with camp setup or group tasks)
- You value the journey and the company as much as the destination

Who Else Will Be There
WU is aimed at a younger generation of outdoor lovers who don't see themselves represented in traditional hiking clubs and our members are typically 20-40 years old. Whether you're brand new to the outdoors or have plenty of experience, you'll find something for you.

Our Guides
All of our guides are highly qualified, passionate outdoor lovers, just like you. They love to share their knowledge and will help you see our destinations in another light, often teaching you something along the trail.
