Description

We're into August and the bugs are subsiding which means we can start to explore further into the forest again!

One of Wilderness Union's favourite hikes. Just over 2 hours outside of Toronto and you feel like you're deep in the wilderness. Our route takes you into classic Canadian Shield territory, through a beautiful forest that opens onto pristine lakes and more beaver ponds than you've ever seen before. We'll carefully make our way across granite rock faces and balance as we cross between lakes on beaver dams.

Along the way, we have a good chance of seeing beavers, porcupines, even bears and moose.

Our end point is a gorgeous lake where we'll stop for lunch for long enough to cool off in the crystal waters before heading back the way we came.

Secret Location

This is one of Wilderness Union's 'secret' hikes. As a group, we visit some truly special spots that are undiscovered by the wider world. We like to keep them pristine and only share them among our members and ask that you do the same! We reveal the location to registered members in the days before the trip.

This is one of Wilderness Union's favourite hikes, located in QEII Wildlands Provincial Park, just over 2 hours outside of Toronto. You'll feel like you're deep in the wilderness. This spot is approximately 2.5 hrs North of Toronto.

07:00 - Shuttle leaves from near Keele Station

10:00 - Begin hike

12:00 - Packed lunch and swim

15:00 - Anticipated end of hike

18:30 - Anticipated return to Toronto

This hike is moderately challenging. While not long, it does require you to cross some narrow beaver dams and at one point, descend a small rock face. There's a rope and it's perfectly safe when approached carefully. If you have any concerns about your suitability, please contact us on Discord.

The precise location will be revealed once you've signed up. Self-drivers - we're going 200km North of Toronto.

Food and Drink
You'll need to bring a packed lunch and water for any of our day trips that don't explicitly say we're making a stop at a restaurant. Where we stop at restaurants, you are responsible for the purchase of any food. Full details are available at the adventure plan, shared above on registration.

Carbon Offsetting
Wilderness Union offsets the estimated carbon emissions of every trip by investing in a global portfolio of verified carbon reduction projects.

What to Expect on a WU Trip

Is a Wilderness Union Trip Right for You?
We offer a unique alternative to commercial tours. We don't just show you incredible natural wonders, we teach you to become confident in nature so you can discover the life changing magic of the outdoors. You'll love it here if:
- You want to make real friends, not just small talk with strangers
- You prefer "off the beaten path" over "all-inclusive resort"
- You're happy to pitch in and learn new skills (e.g., helping with camp setup or group tasks)
- You value the journey and the company as much as the destination

Who Else Will Be There
WU is aimed at a younger generation of outdoor lovers who don't see themselves represented in traditional hiking clubs and our members are typically 20-40 years old. Whether you're brand new to the outdoors or have plenty of experience, you'll find something for you.

Our Guides
All of our guides are highly qualified, passionate outdoor lovers, just like you. They love to share their knowledge and will help you see our destinations in another light, often teaching you something along the trail.
