Advanced Firecraft picks up where our introductory course leaves off.
Kyle, our expert firecraft instructor, is back to take you past the basics and into the techniques that hold up when conditions turn against you.
We'll spend the morning on friction fire and advanced feather sticking, working with wood we gather and carve ourselves.
At lunch we'll put that fire to work, baking char cloth together around a central fire pit. That batch becomes your ignition material for the afternoon, when we move on to flint and steel.
The day finishes with a wet-weather challenge. You'll be handed soaked wood and asked to get a fire going using everything you've learned. It's a proper test, and a very satisfying one to pass.
Need a knife? You'll be carving throughout the day, so a fixed-blade knife is essential. If you don't have one, you can either rent or purchase a high quality Mora knife during your check out. Please note that a knife is required for this course!
Included: Your own high-quality ferro rod to take home and keep the fire burning wherever you go.
Who it's for: This is an advanced course. You'll need to have completed Firecraft Level 1 (the next one runs October 31) or have equivalent skills. We review every registration by hand to make sure the group is ready for the material. Group sizes are capped at 20 with two guides, so everyone gets plenty of time with Kyle.
About this series: The Survivalist Series is an expert-led set of courses designed to develop practical, life-saving skills in the outdoors. Keep your eyes peeled for more courses coming soon. Explorer members get access to this series at a discounted rate!
