Description

The Crack is Killarney Provincial Park's most famous hike and best view.

We're on the road by 6 a.m. to get a full day on the trail, so pack your coffee and be ready for an unforgettable adventure. The first couple of kilometres are deceptively easy, a flat walk through birch and pine that barely hints at what's coming.

Then things start to pick up. You'll cross Kakakise Creek, join the La Cloche Silhouette Trail, and start climbing over the white quartzite rocks that this area is so well known for. Near the top, the trail squeezes through the crack itself: a narrow, boulder-choked crevasse that’s split into the rock face. Working your way up and over the boulders inside is a highlight of the whole day.

From the ridge, Georgian Bay and a scatter of Killarney's blue lakes spread out below, framed by that same iconic white quartzite of the La Cloche Mountains on every side. On a clear day, you can see for kilometres in every direction. It's one of the best views in the province, and you’ll be able to share it with a great group of people.

Please note: It is highly recommended to take the provided transport for this adventure as daily vehicle permits for this hike sell out very quickly

What to Expect on a WU Trip

Is a Wilderness Union Trip Right for You?
We offer a unique alternative to commercial tours. We don't just show you incredible natural wonders, we teach you to become confident in nature so you can discover the life changing magic of the outdoors. You'll love it here if:
- You want to make real friends, not just small talk with strangers
- You prefer "off the beaten path" over "all-inclusive resort"
- You're happy to pitch in and learn new skills (e.g., helping with camp setup or group tasks)
- You value the journey and the company as much as the destination

Who Else Will Be There
WU is aimed at a younger generation of outdoor lovers who don't see themselves represented in traditional hiking clubs and our members are typically 20-40 years old. Whether you're brand new to the outdoors or have plenty of experience, you'll find something for you.

Our Guides
All of our guides are highly qualified, passionate outdoor lovers, just like you. They love to share their knowledge and will help you see our destinations in another light, often teaching you something along the trail.
