Description

WU is partnering with Canadian Blood Services to save lives and beat the post-holiday blues! Join us to hang out with your WU team, donate blood if you wish (or give moral support), and enjoy a celebratory meal. Blood donation is essential to help people survive serious injuries. It also saves lives in many other situations, including for infants, people undergoing surgeries, and people with cancer or many other illnesses. In Canada, we rely entirely on volunteer blood donors. There is a pressing need for more donors, especially young people. WU is in a great position to help! A typical single donation can save up to 3 lives, and just like on WU trips, we can multiply our impact by working together.

For this social, we’ll meet and catch up after the workday. We’ll then attend the blood donation centre together for about an hour. If you have not donated blood before, don’t worry – the pros at the donation centre will walk you through it, and there are unlimited free snacks! Afterwards, a group dinner is in the cards.

Not everyone is able to donate blood, or wants to donate blood, and that’s totally OK! To keep donors healthy, and the blood supply safe to use, there are certain rules about who may donate. The rules are different in different places, and they were recently updated in Canada to let more people give blood. You can check your eligibility here: https://www.blood.ca/en/blood/am-i-eligible-donate-blood/abcs-eligibility.

Food and Drink
You'll need to bring a packed lunch and water for any of our day trips that don't explicitly say we're making a stop at a restaurant. Where we stop at restaurants, you are responsible for the purchase of any food. Full details are available at the adventure plan, shared above on registration.

Carbon Offsetting
Wilderness Union offsets the estimated carbon emissions of every trip by investing in a global portfolio of verified carbon reduction projects.

What to Expect on a WU Trip

Is a Wilderness Union Trip Right for You?
We offer a unique alternative to commercial tours. We don't just show you incredible natural wonders, we teach you to become confident in nature so you can discover the life changing magic of the outdoors. You'll love it here if:
- You want to make real friends, not just small talk with strangers
- You prefer "off the beaten path" over "all-inclusive resort"
- You're happy to pitch in and learn new skills (e.g., helping with camp setup or group tasks)
- You value the journey and the company as much as the destination

Who Else Will Be There
WU is aimed at a younger generation of outdoor lovers who don't see themselves represented in traditional hiking clubs and our members are typically 20-40 years old. Whether you're brand new to the outdoors or have plenty of experience, you'll find something for you.

Our Guides
All of our guides are highly qualified, passionate outdoor lovers, just like you. They love to share their knowledge and will help you see our destinations in another light, often teaching you something along the trail.
