Adventure Description

Trees are pretty cool huh? What do you actually know about them though? Can you tell an Elm from an Ash? The more we learn about the world around us, the more we appreciate it and our time in the woods. Our recent foraging class changed the way we saw the paths we walk and this session is sure to do the same!

Toronto has an incredible diversity of trees and a particularly unique ecosystem in High Park. Our guide Jon will be leading a unique session, not only helping us understand the trees that surround us but also teaching how to identify trees ourselves. We'll come out of this lesson with a new lens on Toronto and further our natural knowledge.

Over the course of an afternoon we'll get an in-depth introduction to tree identification, learning about trees in a practical setting. Using identifying features like leaves, twigs and buds, you'll learn to tell the difference between Maples, Ashes, Birches, all the Conifers and more. Not only will you become familiar with trees around the city but you'll also learn a system to identify other trees for yourself in future, leaving with a custom tree identification key to help you!

About our instructor

Jon is one of our regular guides, a friend to many of us and has an incredible depth of knowledge and appreciation for nature. Dendrology (the scientific study of trees) is one of his many qualifications and we're lucky to have him teaching this unique course.
