This is a great time of year to go star gazing. The cold temperatures create clearer skies and Torrance Barrens is among the best places on earth to go. It's a protected area, maintained by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, dedicated to preserving the natural darkness of the night sky. It's located in a remote spot, 2 hrs North of the city and has very little light pollution, allowing for exceptional star gazing.
We're timing this visit to line up with the new moon and keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies. If it pans out, you'll see the Milky Way, shooting stars and it's not impossible we could even be blessed with some aurora activity (the Northern Lights).
Once we've decided on the exact day we're going up, we'll meet either early evening or after work (depending on whether it's a weekend) and travel up together. We'll spend a few hours up there, returning in the early hours of the morning. Expect to get very little sleep that night!
Please note - The exact date for this adventure is flexible, depending on cloud coverage closer to the time.
