Adventure Description

Algonquin is paradise for those who want to leave the city behind and immerse themselves in wildlife, crystal lakes and rich forests. Being in its backcountry is even better! So few humans, beautiful starry skies and absolute serenity.

Come with us on a super easy guided trip to Ragged Lake in the Algonquin backcountry, where we'll spend the most peaceful 3 days and 2 nights.

We'll begin our adventure at Access Point 6 (Smoke Lake). Carrying our gear and canoes, we'll portage through a trail that's a little under 500m taking us to Smoke Lake. We'll paddle all the way to Ragged Lake where we'll set up camp.

We'll split onto two separate campsites if we end up with more than 9 people and you'll stay in Wilderness Union provided tents, separated by gender.

You'll learn a set of skills: canoeing through calm and windy waters, portaging with all your gear, purifying drinking water, making fire with deadwood, and being bear (and other wildlife) safe.

In the past we've seen moose, black bear and beavers; so cross your fingers! There's tons of other wildlife to hear and see, just as exciting as seeing the big guys.

This is a beginner friendly trip and is suitable for people of all abilities. Those who don't feel capable of carrying a canoe will carry gear instead and we'll be helping each other out every step of the way.

We'll be accompanied by an experienced wilderness guide with a wealth of experience leading groups in Northern Ontario and advanced first aid qualifications.

This is a great opportunity to hone your love for the outdoors with friends new and old.

What's included

All of the permitting, reservations, canoes, safety equipment, food and guide fees are included in the cost of this adventure. We'll also be providing tents so you just need to decide whether you want to ride up with us in the van (likely cheaper than self-driving with required permits and parking) and if you need any additional gear.

Food

Dinner on Friday and Saturday, Lunch on Saturday and Sunday and Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday along with tea and coffee are all included in the cost of this adventure. You'll just be responsible for bringing your own snacks and for the final celebratory meal on the way home after we leave the park on Monday.
