Heartwood Farm is a special place and a friend of Wilderness Union. They practice regenerative agriculture and take a thoughtful approach to farming. They have a fantastic cidery on site as well as some very friendly animals.
We'll be spending the day there, learning how they do things, planting trees and eating well.
This is a unique event that's bringing together many different community groups - a portion of the trip fee goes towards subsidizing transport for lower income folks who would otherwise be unable to attend.

We’re so pleased that you’re planning to join us at Heartwood Farm & Cidery this coming Sunday for our Silviculture Sunday! We are excited to have youth and elders, new and experienced, urban and rural folk.
It really feels like it’s going to be a fabulous, energizing and uplifting day — revelling in spring on the farm, meeting new friends, good connections, and working together to heal the land.
When you arrive, we will help you get parked and we will gather by our farm store (yes, there is a bathroom!) and woodland patio. We have a welcome circle planned, and an important farm walking tour to experience all of the activity zones before lunch. We’ll need your help to get materials carried to the various zones too.
After lunch, you’ll be free to contribute in the various activity zones around the farm… tree planting, harvesting invasive garlic mustard, conversation around the campfire, arts activity. We will have a closing circle at 3:30pm before sending you off with gratitude, good memories and new friends.
09:30 - Meet at PetroCanada next to Keele Subway Station. There's free parking on Keele Street north of the station. Make sure you've had breakfast and used the washroom before meeting us!
09:40 - Van leaves. Please note that we'll be leaving dead on time and can't wait for latecomers so please, please be on time!
10:40 - Meet with self-drivers at Heartwood Farm & Cidery
11:00 - Welcome and farm orientation
11:00 - 16:00 - Farm activities
17:00 - Anticipated return to Toronto
This custom map is georeferenced, meaning it will show you where you are on the map in the right software and lays out the rough path that we’ll be following. It’s opened with the Avenza app which must be downloaded and installed in advance of the adventure.
You should also download the What3words app - this makes it easy to share and find locations in the unlikely event that you get lost.
General Notes
It will be unusually warm and likely muddy. There's also a good chance of rain in the afternoon so you'll want to be dressed in layers for all eventualities.
Packing list
Bring extra snacks and a water bottle
This is a working farm so you should follow the instructions of staff on site and not wander off independently.
Ticks - Tick season has started again and they're active in the area we're visiting. Black Legged Ticks have the risk of carrying Lyme disease so it's important that you check yourself thoroughly after each hike. You're also recommended to have your legs covered so it's harder for them to latch on.
